Passionate about pushing the limits of modern technology, co-founders Marie-Eve Ducharme and Olivier Daigle created the company in the heart of Montreal in April of 2010. Focused on designing and internationally commercializing innovatively sensitive cameras, Nüvü Camēras’ purpose is to allow scientists and professionals alike to explore interesting new territories that have hitherto remained uncharted.

Roots of innovation

Nüvü Camēras’ EMCCD camera, distinguished by its ability to capture the most infinitesimal quantity of light without background noise blurring the generated image, is the product of the Ph.D. earned by Dr. Daigle, CTO, engineer and astrophysicist. “When NASA is interested in an invention while the first prototype has just barely been completed, it’s a sign that we have a good product in our hands!” declares Ms. Ducharme, CEO, whose expertise is management of innovation.


Nüvü Camēras’ ultra sensitive imaging technology was born after 8 years of intense research and development. The first prototype of Nüvü Camēras technology was developed by Dr. Daigle during his Ph.D. in physics at the University of Montreal with the Experimental Astrophysics Laboratory of the Astrophysics Research Centre of Quebec, in collaboration with Photon etc. Inc. as well as the participation of the Astrophysics Laboratory of Marseille.

Thanks to significant noise reduction, one of the major advantages of Nüvü Camēras’ groundbreaking products is its innovative sensitivity. Such improvement boosts the equipment efficiency in applications requiring short exposure periods or that take place in extremely low lighting condition. The considerable benefits for several fields of application made it easy for Ms. Ducharme to convince Dr. Daigle — with whom she had already been working over the previous 6 years — to partner in this adventure, especially since the timing was perfect for the two. Ms. Ducharme was ready for her 2nd successful startup in high technology imaging, but now as one of the founders! In parallel, by the end of his thesis, Dr. Daigle was very enthusiastic to allow scientists worldwide to benefit from his discovery.

Need for high sensitivity

Beyond the stars, the two co-founders of Nüvü Camēras also keep both feet well on the ground. They are currently introducing their camera in the biomedical imaging field. In fact, the company collaborates with various university health centers, governmental institutions as well as private companies to design superior diagnostic tools and novel applications for this ultra sensitive camera.


After producing high precision imaging equipment for astronomical research, Nüvü Camēras now expands its international marketing efforts to establish itself as a world-class provider for the most sensitive imaging devices. In particular, biomedical research is a key field that has consistently tailgated technological advances over the last decades. As such, Nüvü Camēras’ ingenious technology offers a unique advantage in growing fields such as molecular imaging, in vivo and in actio microscopy with biomarkers and fluorophores, quantitative confocal microscopy, super-resolution as well as in vivo imaging of small animals with bioluminescence and Raman spectroscopy. With its unsurpassed and innovative sensitivity, the technology developed by Nüvü Camēras has opened the gates to new pathways, benefiting countless areas of study like cancer and drug research.

International quality and capacity

In order to immediately honor its sales, Nüvü Camēras strategically based its initial operations on the University of Montreal and École Polytechnique campus, and created an organizational structure for a rapid and sustainable growth. After a five-year immersion in a science and research environment, the company has moved its facilities to the technology quarter of the business district of downtown Montreal at the INGO Innovation Centre, to further expand.

With a noise level at least ten times less than any other camera on the market, Nüvü Camēras is leading high sensitivity EMCCD camera technology to comply with worldwide demand.


Based since December 15th, 2015 at the INGO Innovation Centre, an École de technologie supérieure venture, Nüvü Camēras benefits from the high-end capabilities of a surrounding engineering university environment in terms of creativity, professionalism, knowledge, equipment as well as various services to support its increasing growth.

Evidently, sufficient funds are far from being the only tool required for success.
